July is Independents Month.
Independents Month celebrates independent, locally-owned businesses and the community values they embody:
- Their spirit of entrepreneurship, individuality, uniqueness, and character
- How they give back to our community with their time, talents, goods, and services
- How they fulfill community needs that make us healthier and wealthier
Independents Month is a fabulous time to:
- Learn about what’s available locally
- Consider the consequences of your choices
- Shift some of your spending to align with your values

Here are three additional things you can do:
- Take the Indie Pledge to shift at least 50% of your spending to independently-owned, local businesses for the month of July?
- Join the celebration by recording a short video of yourself inside your favorite small business in Rhode Island to be shared on social media to highlight the many amazing independent, locally-owned businesses. Send your video to jessica@localreturn.org.
- And join us at our next Local Social on Thursday, August 1, to celebrate Independents Month.
