Jumpstart Rhode Island works to revitalize Rhode Island through training, mentoring, and networking for local aspiring developers. Our program is modeled on the unique community development program developed by Jumpstart Germantown and Philly Office Retail (which has since expanded to several other communities). Jumpstart uses a collaborative approach to real estate development, emphasizing the sharing of resources and information, because we can do more together than we can do alone.
We are seeking aspiring or early-stage developers who are community-minded and share our interest in the future of Rhode Island. Jumpstarters should be committed to retaining local ownership and community wealth; revitalizing neighborhoods from within; creating more quality, affordable housing; and making Rhode Island a better place to live, work, and enjoy.
The Training Program consists of 15 hours of instruction using our comprehensive Jumpstart curriculum. In the program, you’ll learn about the 7 JumpSteps of real estate development and visit a local construction site.
Interested applicants must have a commitment to revitalizing Rhode Island. The focus of Jumpstart Rhode Island is not only financial gain for the participant. Jumpstart Rhode Island is devoted to changing Rhode Island for the better, and we ask that only candidates with a similar mission apply.
The Training Program introduces less experienced developers (with 0-3 previous renovation projects) to the basics of real estate development, including property sourcing, due diligence, financing, design and construction, and leasing and selling. Participants will be introduced to experienced mentors, who may be able to guide them through their next development projects.
At this time, the program is only being delivered in English. We hope to be able to offer a Spanish-language cohort soon.
