Local Return is seeking to expand its Board of Directors. You might be just the right person! Are you passionate about local economies? Do you believe in community ownership and investment, the local multiplier effect, and community decision-making? Do you get excited about building ecosystems and networks? Are you ready to commit to a determined, dynamic early-stage organization?
If you think we’re a good match, the first step is to complete this expression of interest form by March 31. Once we have a chance to review the responses along with our needs, we’ll follow up directly with you.
The Board of Directors supports the work of Local Return by providing mission-based leadership and strategic governance. As an all-volunteer organization, the Board also takes on a more hands-on role. Directors serve a three-year term. Board meetings are held monthly. Specific board member responsibilities include:
- Strategy and programs: Developing and implementing Local Return’s strategy, regularly considering our impact and lessons learned, and volunteering at/leading Local Return events and activities.
- Financial and legal oversight: Approving Local Return’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Leadership and governance: Acting as an ambassador for Local Return, being active and engaged, and taking on special assignments as appropriate.
- Fundraising: We ask that all board members consider Local Return a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority, commensurate with their capacity.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about Local Return’s mission and is eager to dig into our work! Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
- Professional and/or lived experience in work relevant to the Local Return mission and areas of work.
- Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for Local Return’s mission.
- Independence and objectivity, ability to serve the organization as a whole rather than any special interest group, constituency, or issue
- An entrepreneurial, can-do attitude and imaginative spirit
Directors are not compensated for their service.
